His speciality is the oil & gas sector, but he also has extensive experience serving as a generalist. Pat has built more than 200 equity valuation models spanning a wide variety of industries.

In his current role as Senior Vice-President, Research & Analysis for Natural Gas Intelligence (NGI), Pat directs NGI’s daily and bid-week surveys of natural gas trading that determine spot market natural gas index prices at more than 170 trading locations in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to joining NGI, Mr. Rau served various investment firms as an equity research analyst specializing in the North American natural gas industry. Based in New York City, he used his skills as a financial analyst to maintain buy-sell recommendations and valuation models for more than forty midstream, exploration & production, and oil services firms, and to generate Henry Hub natural gas and WTI crude oil price forecasts each quarter. During his career he held sell-side positions with BMO Capital Markets and ABN-AMRO/ING Barings, and as a generalist with the buy-side firm Briarcliff Capital.

Before his tenure on Wall Street, Mr. Rau worked for the Amerada Hess Corporation in Woodbridge, New Jersey, as both an internal consultant and a Senior Financial Analyst.

Pat earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at the College of William & Mary, and his Master of Business Administration at Georgetown University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Pat currently splits time between New York City and Reston, Virginia. He is married to Brenda Rau, Licensed Real Estate Salesperson with Compass Real Estate in New York City.
